It makes me boggle that distributors still haven't worked this out. It's been decades since accessibility subtitles were introduced and distributors are still trying to skimp by not producing both full subtitles and partial subtitles for multilingual films :>(

A useful reminder that *two* subtitle files should be available for films in a foreign language: one traditional subtitle file and a second file which matches the dubbing script #opinionsaboutsubtitles
I am definitely team 'read my work out loud in proofreading'. In fact, I'm team Proofread Out Loud, Proofread On Screen and Proofread On Paper With A Pencil.

What I do really hate though is a problem I’m seeing lately w/ AppleTV shows in multiple languages where you can’t have both the original audio and subtitles ONLY for the non-English parts. This used to just work but it doesn‘t anymore. I can’t stand English subtitles on English scenes.
I have difficulty understanding a lot of dialogue (partly bad hearing, partly bad mixing, partly unfamiliar accents), so I watch most content with subtitles on which is easier than rewinding 3-4 times to try and understand what was said.
OTOH, if the subs and dub don't match I pick subs hands down.
