Kiddo and I collaborated on this sweet quick banner, ready for Aotearoa’s national day of action this Saturday! 🏳️⚧️🏳️⚧️🏳️⚧️
Amazing protest in Tāmaki Makaurau as part of a national day of action against the bigoted coalition government's legislation trying to define a woman and man. Real feminists know women can't be defined. #transrights
I spent some time looking at stopping-violence programmes and concerns within the sector about what’s working v what’s not, and whose voice is missing.
Thread: I am extremely proud to have been part of the Backbone Collective's team which carried out the research which inspired Paula's in-depth and excellent reporting.
Huge gratitude & admiration for the victim-survivors who took part in our survey. It was a privilege to read your insights. 1/n
Equity vs equality? Why educators and health experts say understanding the difference matters www.rnz.co.nz/news/te-manu...
Not only are they failing to asking survivors if the abuse has decreased (i.e. measuring the actual intended outcome), the cheap option of former perpetrators taking over courses from qualified practitioners seems to be giving abusers a cosy mens' group rather than changing behaviour.
Every second Friday, veteran teacher Jo Patrick stands outside the Education Minister's electorate office with a recorder and one clear message:
"Stop undervaluing us."

While equality focuses on treating people the same, equity asks whether everyone has the same opportunity to thrive in the first place.

At least half of the women & non-binary victim-survivors in Backbone Collective's survey reported abuse had not only continued but *got worse* during & after the person abusing them attended the Stopping-Violence programme.

Ōtautahi, haere mai for a rally on a national day of action challenging the "definition of woman" bill. Hear from a wide range of speakers, cis and trans, and make it clear that it doesn't speak for *anyone*.
