Deputy PM Seymour emailed woman querying Minister Chhour's excess parking costs saying, โ€œAre you ready to accept youโ€™ve just had a beating?โ€ re her history of escaping a violent relationship and suffering ongoing PTSD. ๐Ÿ˜’ He has now apologised for his comment. #NZpol www.stuff.co.nz/politics/360...
Every second Friday, veteran teacher Jo Patrick stands outside the Education Minister's electorate office with a recorder and one clear message: "Stop undervaluing us."
Not only are they failing to asking survivors if the abuse has decreased (i.e. measuring the actual intended outcome), the cheap option of former perpetrators taking over courses from qualified practitioners seems to be giving abusers a cosy mens' group rather than changing behaviour.
Thread: I am extremely proud to have been part of the Backbone Collective's team which carried out the research which inspired Paula's in-depth and excellent reporting. Huge gratitude & admiration for the victim-survivors who took part in our survey. It was a privilege to read your insights. 1/n

A beautiful day in Tฤmaki Makaurau #TransRights #HumanRights #WomensRights
Amazing protest in Tฤmaki Makaurau as part of a national day of action against the bigoted coalition government's legislation trying to define a woman and man. Real feminists know women can't be defined. #transrights
Only some of the hundreds of incredible signs at the Rainbow Action Tฤmaki Day of Action protest against the gender definitions bill today. Such an excellent rally!

Equity vs equality? Why educators and health experts say understanding the difference matters
While equality focuses on treating people the same, equity asks whether everyone has the same opportunity to thrive in the first place.

At least half of the women & non-binary victim-survivors in Backbone Collective's survey reported abuse had not only continued but *got worse* during & after the person abusing them attended the Stopping-Violence programme.
