Really glad that @larryglickman.bsky.social made this point about my thesis on the "de-South-ification" of Virginia (and, possibly, North Carolina and Georgia, too). I submit that we are seeing a real countervailing trend in some places against the "southernization" of politics that many have noted.

Indeed, some of the county prosecutors that are refusing to enforce Spanberger's new assault weapons ban are effectively arguing that the sovereignty of the people *within* the borders of these red counties can't be overridden by the state legislature!

This is bad. At least 9 county prosecutors in pro-Trump areas of Virginia have now openly declared that they won't enforce the assault weapons ban that the Dem state legislature recently passed.
It's a MAGA nullification movement.

Spanberger had a 500k vote lead in NOVA, and it’s basically impossible for Republicans to make up that kind of deficit across the rest of the state. Virginia now is what Georgia will look like in a decade given the in migration of professional, particularly Black professional, to the ATL metro.

This has to be politically painful for Gov. Spanberger. She comes from a law enforcement family, resulting in her own career in law enforcement before becoming CIA. She can’t ignore this attempt at nullification by police in Virginia. They must be dealt with forcibly to bring them into compliance.
