NITA reason to celebrate? This week, the new NITA Act came into effect, eliminating parking minimums near transit and paving the way for systemwide safety and service improvements.

We are heartbroken by the loss of safe streets champion Riley O’Neil, whose work touched all of us in the region. These tragedies are preventable. We need proactive and urgent action in our communities for making life-saving improvements like protected bike lanes.
ETA members wrote a letter of support for improvements to Central Street Metra, and it’s great to see this project moving forward
Join us Thursday, June 11th at 5:30PM for a family friendly bike event in support of the Lincoln-Harrison Greenway, a safe and direct east-west cycling route for North Evanston that would connect regional trails, schools, parks, and Northwestern.
Due to severe weather expected in our area later today, we have cancelled the bicycle ride along Lincoln-Harrison. While we're disappointed, safety is our top priority. We appreciate your feedback and support as we continue advocating for safer, more connected bike infrastructure in our community.
Evanston’s bike lanes are frequently blocked by illegally parked vehicles. Paint/flex posts are not protection, and as this video shows, enforcement is inconsistent and temporary. Church and Davis need concrete barriers before someone on bike- like a child going to the library- is injured or killed.
Free parking encourages car use, disincentivizes taking transit, and increases congestion. Studies show customers arriving by foot, bike, bus, or train shop more often and spend more per month. Let's support local businesses with real solutions that align with Evanston's climate and mobility goals.
Purple Line accessibility, an expanded bike network, and frequent, all-day regional rail are priorities in CMAP's draft RTP. A strategy for infill stations like on the Yellow Line in Evanston, would be a good addition to the list. Read the plan and give your input: cmap.illinois.gov/regional-pla...

I made this graphic on Church Street in Evanston to show the bad options cyclists are faced with when a bike lane is blocked. I’m speaking at the City Council meeting tonight about our unsafe bike lanes and this weekend’s tragic cycling death of Riley O’Neil.

Rider-focused improvements will begin rolling out across the system immediately as CTA, Metra, and Pace increase service this summer in the six-county region.
CMAP is developing the 2026 Regional Transportation Plan (RTP) — a long-term blueprint that will guide how our region invests in and improves its transportation system over the coming decades.
Shocking video today in Evanston of an EPD officer responding to a cyclist reporting a truck blocking a bike lane in a tow zone area. He asked the cyclist “would you rather have him block the street?” YES! Bike lanes are streets for bikes, streets are streets for trucks and cars. It’s unacceptable.

Waiting for a Metra train at Central Street may not be such a cold experience in the wintertime, thanks to the station’s inclusion in the $10 million Access to Transit program under the Regional Transportation Authority (RTA).
While the Central Street station building itself is open from 5:15 a.m. – 1:15 p.m., it can get pretty brisk outdoors when the depot is locked.
A parking expert who presented information to the city’s Economic Development Committee Wednesday night warned that making city parking free might not be as helpful as the thought of it sounds.
For one, Lindsay Bayley, a transportation consultant and former planner at the Chicago Metropolitan Agency for Planning, told the committee that Evanston’s parking problems aren’t comparable to those of Wilmette or Skokie, arguing that the city shouldn’t be competing or comparing parking to either neighbor.
