This is the destruction of federal funding for scientific research & universities as we know it. A total, comprehensive politicization of the process & an end run around Congress.

Another devastating loss of marine science capacity
This is a great thread, excellent post, and critical quote: “Our ability to be governed by reason rather than mobs is on the line.”

“Project 2029” says that we are unable to define our own vision. It’s reactive and doesn’t distinguish itself from its namesake. Why on *earth* would you want to send this kind of boring message that suggests all you can do is copy the other side?
An intensely destructive proposal to US scientific freedom and capability

The entire business model of R1 public universities rests on 4 revenue sources: 1. Federal grants 2. Private gifts/endowments 3. Tuition (esp. from foreign students) 4. State $ For decades, 📈 in 1-3 offset a secular 📉 in 4. Now, 1 & 3 are being decimated & 4 ain't coming back. The math is clear.
“Project for a New Republic” “Project for Constitutional Democracy” “Project for a Third Reconstruction” But FFS not “Project 2029” composed of policy proposals selected for their hypothetical appeal to the 2028 electorate.

More destruction of U.S. science leadership, infrastructure and invaluable research and information that affects all of us. This sounds like another lawsuit in the making. At least I hope so. Gift link. 🎁 www.nytimes.com/2026/06/01/c...

Calling it Project 2029 is just smart. Reminds of that devastating period of destruction of every institution in the country.
