The OSNAP cruise replacing the moorings on AMOC's northern limb is well underway. Two notable things:
1) OSNAP's funding expires early next year, and NSF has still not said if it will be renewed.
2) They are still deploying the two OOI Irminger Sea subsurface moorings associated with OSNAP.

Nowhere else on the planet has such a large swath of ocean been studied as thoroughly and for so long, and much of our modern approach to oceanography can be traced back to this hidden gem.

The ocean is net heterotrophic, i.e., it is a net oxygen consumer.
This is because terrestrial organic matter come down rivers and gets oxidized in the ocean, and this exceeds the amount of organic carbon buried in ocean sediments.
