Called about a car in my neighborhood that is sticking out into sidewalk and has expired tabs. It’s parked on parking strip ( not driveway) for months.
The car got a warning but not for expired tabs. Cops also told me they don’t bother with that either since 2020. Honor system I guess.
We've lost five neighbors who were simply walking or riding to traffic violence in West Seattle in the last few years:
Robb Mason 🚲 — 2022
Nicholas Wolf 🚶 — 2022
Unknown 🚶 — 2022 (Highland Park Way, March 25)
Steve Hulsman 🚲 — 2023
Maridee Bonadea 🚲 — 2026
Very good story from the Vashon Beachcomber. "Bonadea, 76, was headed to an anti-ICE protest that started at the downtown waterfront, her wife, Laura Belt, said Tuesday morning. Biking meant “everything” to Bonadea, Belt said. “It was her escape, it was her exercise, it was what filled her soul.”"

The city could take emergency action and sign the uphill side of this street no-parking TODAY, or we can do 3 years of outreach and foot-dragging while we wait for the blood spilled to be enough to placate the "process".
@seattledot.bsky.social @mayorofseattle.bsky.social the ball's in your court.
It is fully unacceptable by every measure, none of these were the fault of the person. Completely unavoidable with better street design.
I am heartbroken over this. It’s never easy to read about the death of a cyclist but the more I read about this scenario and about Maridee herself the more I have to come to terms with the fact that it truly could have been any one of us. What could she have done besides not be there to begin with?

All the blame for feet-dragging shouldn't land on the FCA of course; the Highland Park Action Committee is right now working hard to block a protected bike lane on Highland Park Way, the type that could've saved Maridee's life on Wildwood
When will planners stop listening to these people. The vast majority of the population flat out does not care and trusts your judgement, but when you crowd source support you’ll get a room of crusty old retirees with nothing else better to do besides tell you no

Right but ...
It's good, actually, to reexamine "changed norms" that actively harm people
I would like to wholeheartedly vote for kids playing in streets (fewer cars) and people using their brains (less AI)

“.. He said cars were once portrayed as killing children, but the world changed its norms by having sidewalks and crosswalks ..
“When I was growing up, I used to play in the streets,” Huang said. “When cars came along, you obviously can’t play in the streets now.”
