Hi Genetics/Comp-Bio community 👋
Interested in mentoring a comp-bio research student in East Africa over the summer? Do you have any experience in bioinformatics, biostats, genome/RNA-seq analyses, ML, or metagenomics? We'd love to have you as a mentor in our new program! 🧵 (1/n)
Thrilled to announce that the Department of Microbiology at the University of Washington, School of Medicine is hiring at the Assistant Professor level (tenure-track)!

Kuhn, @maxkrummel.bsky.social et al. demonstrate how local gene editing of cancer-associated fibroblasts alters their cell state and, subsequently, the cellular tumor microenvironment. rupress.org/jem/article/...

Congrats to Tristan & @maxkrummel.bsky.social for this herculean effort to immunoprofile 15 murine tumor models to identify conserved immune networks. An important resource for mapping what we can understand about human cancers from mouse systems.

In this Resource paper, Krummel and colleagues provide analysis of 15 commonly used syngeneic mouse tumor models and compare these to the diversity of human tumor microenvironments.

Nature Reviews Immunology, Published online: 11 May 2026; doi:10.1038/s41577-026-01311-4Macrophages continuously ‘nibble’ healthy neighbouring cells, capturing minute amounts of cytosolic material that are preserved in specialized vesicles and preferentially routed for cross-presentation to CD8+ T cells.
Interesting paper on mitochondrial control of cross-presentation in cDC1s: loss of Complex I impairs cross-presentation of cell-associated antigen and alters NAD+/NADH balance. Restoring NAD+/NADH rescues the phenotype, while correcting lipid peroxidation does not.

Studies of mouse dendritic cells show that mitochondrial complex I dysfunction can impair antigen cross-presentation, but can be restored by rebalancing redox homeostasis.
