DISCLOSURE DAY: Emily Blunt is excellent in Spielberg’s odd, uneven & painfully lens-flared mix of conspiracy thriller, otherworldly spectacle & implausibly earnest, messianic fable. 2/3 great, 1/3 guff but undeniable proof that aliens are bad at CGI & you can always trust your local news affiliate.
Moviedrome played a huge part in my film education, especially the Alex Cox era, introducing me to Django, Badlands, Something Wild, Vamp, Escape from New York, Dead Ringers, Rabid, Alligator, Q: The Winged Serpent and many more. This was a delightful nostalgia trip well worth your time:
I’m at 97 and BONE TEMPLE is definitely near that top alongside PROJECT HAIL MARY. Likewise lots I’ve not yet seen, OBSESSION, almost everything from Cannes etc. Best Asian movies: COLD WAR 1994, TOKYO TAXI, DOUBLE HAPPINESS, THE SEOUL GUARDIANS

SHEEP IN THE BOX sets itself up as AIR DOLL for grieving parents but unravels almost immediately, meandering its way through a series of poorly conceived ideas and undercooked themes before ending with an almighty shrug. Could this be Kore-eda’s worst film? Struggling to think of another this poor.
Tonight:
Is this the one next to Heysel stadium? I watched SINNERS there and actually thought it was a pretty great cinema. Very handy being next door to where BIFFF was being hosted, but admittedly it's quite a trek from the centre of town.
I had to use a VPN, well worth it
I was absolutely thrilled to have been invited to record an audio commentary for this stunning new release of one of my all-time favourite films. A dream come true. Huge thanks to @phillipescott.bsky.social for th opportunity.
