Long-range axon branching: contributions to brain network plasticity and repair โ€” a Review by Linda J. Richards, Cheng Huang, Adam Q. Bauer & Jin-Moo Lee #neuroscience #neuroskyence www.nature.com/articles/s41...
Recent review about long-range axons rdcu.be/eXeDG
This is our best in vivo AP propagation movie so far. Recorded at 1k Hz from the axonal branches of a fly CNS neuron, using voltage indicator pAce.
1) Removing external saline keeps neuronal physiology consistent over days or even weeks. 2) Our simplified holder allows flies to exhibit natural behaviors under the microscope. 3) The glue effectively stabilizes brain motion, so no need to remove muscle 16, even during feeding!
Thanks to the McDonnell Center for Systems Neuroscience for providing seed funding for a new project that aims at understanding the etiology of environmental stress induced seizures in Drosophila. In collaboration with the Huang lab (sites.wustl.edu/huanglab/).

Drosophila folks! We just shared a new protocol for surgical preparation that enables long-term imaging in adult flies. Itโ€™s low-cost, simple, and highly repeatable. For demonstration, we show a 10-day voltage imaging and a 1-week population calcium imaging results. www.biorxiv.org/content/10.6...
Happy New Year! ๐Ÿฅณ CSB Friday seminars resume Jan 9 with a fascinating talk by Prof Cheng Huang @huangchengwashu.bsky.social on โ€œDecoding dopamine-mediated learning algorithms in the Drosophila brainโ€! ๐Ÿงช๐Ÿชฐ Join us at 11am in RW432! csb.utoronto.ca/events/cheng...

Connectome reconstructions across multiple species reveal that the morphology of axonal projections is highly variable, even between neurons of the same location or subtype. In this Review, Richards e...

Long-range axon branching: contributions to brain network plasticity and repair - Nature Reviews Neuroscience
The ability to make the world of odorants intelligible is a key capability of the Drosophila olfactory system that we shall call olfactory intelligence. We argue that olfactory intelligence does not o...
