The fantasy of human colonization of Mars isn't just stupid, unrealistic, or a waste of resources — it's pernicious, because it actively stokes insouciance with respect to safeguarding the only planet that at least 99.99999999% of us are ever going to live on.
I should probably explain the mechanics of this.
Several years ago, the legislature passed a law setting a process whereby initiatives or referenda can be negotiated off the ballot.
Separately, the legislature can place a substitute on the ballot, like they did with Prop 50.
and to be rational: they want the US to make israel stop bombing lebanon. the US said it would do that. the US is not doing that. why the hell wouldn’t the iranians say “ok so i guess no deal? how’s that sound?”
