Death and Loans: On grief, debt, knives, and refusing the call when it's coming from inside the house open.substack.com/pub/mwissig/...

Recent acquisitions. All recommended, especially the Stahlenhag and @alexries.com volumes. The Banks book is only for true Culture sickos though. The man couldn't draw, but it's interesting to see the scale and proportions of his universe as sketched. #ArtBooks #Art #Illustration #ComicArt #SciFi

I don't mean to sound totally dismissive of Banks' drawings, they just don't mean much without the context of the novels. Stahlenhag's book feels very personal while also containing some of his best art to date. And the Ries is a delight for anybody who likes creature art. Barlowe adjacent.

Last week we stayed in a cabin in the Sierra, down the road from where I grew up. Managed to time it with the last big storm of the season, but that also meant maximum greenery. Felt more like Cascadia than the central Sierra. Population 225, cell coverage 0%. Nice. #SierraCounty #California
No bears sighted, but we did encounter deer and antelope (couldn't tell if they were playing, though also didn't hear any discouraging words). Had a couple fantastic meals at the Sierra Pines Resort. Check 'em out if you find yourself in Sierra County (& worth the drive from Reno)
