ATF6 causes an enrichment in long-chain fatty acids in the colon, which contributes to the development of colorectal cancer🧪
I recently had the pleasure of a short stay at the University of Gothenburg, hosted by Elisabeth Nyström. Many thanks to Liz and everyone in the Mucin Biology groups for the warm welcome and stimulating scientific exchange. Looking forward to continuing our collaboration! #mucusmatters
🚀 What’s it like to launch a new lab? Hans-Georg Sprenger shares challenges, early wins & the joy of mentoring in molecular metabolism research. @mpiage.bsky.social

The transcription factor ATF6 causes an enrichment in long-chain fatty acids in the colonic epithelium, which leads to changes in the gut microbiota and contributes to the development of colorectal cancer in humans and mice, thereby linking endoplasmic reticulum stress responses to lipid metabolism and tumorigenesis.

Very happy to share our latest publication unravelling how the #ERstress sensor ATF6 stirs up trouble (and tumors) in #colorectalcancer. ATF6 drives CRC by reshaping lipid #metabolism and the intestinal #microbiota. A huge thank you to all co-authors! #lifesciences

It‘s been a pleasure to host @mucubacter.bsky.social as a guest speaker for the CRC1371 #microbiomesignatures here at #TUM. Fantastic talk on #microbiome #diet #antibiotic and #mucus projects, and great exchanges! Thank you for your visit Björn! #mucusmatters
Road trip starts tomorrow. Journal proofs still MIA. Guess the laptop’s coming after all… #academiclife #firstauthorpriviliges
This was a labor of love requiring lots of teamwork over years, repeating in 3 locations! Thanks to all the lab over the years, giving their time generously to this team project, & our wonderful collaborators. The source of fat matters for anti-tumor immunity 🐄🐖🧈🌴🫒🥥

This study shows that animal-based high-fat diets accelerate tumour growth and impair anti-tumour response to melanoma in obese mice, whereas plant-based high-fat diets do not.
Researchers identified a #cellularmechanism that alters the #gutmicrobiome in a way that promotes #cancer. The study could demonstrate the increased formation of long-chain #fattyacids – the preferred food of certain cancer-promoting #bacteria: go.tum.de/864170

TUM researchers have identified a cellular mechanism through which cancer-promoting bacteria in the gut can multiply and adapt the gut microbiome.
