Reform ran Essex County Council have ordered libraries to stop their important work around equalities- such as promoting Pride.
This is extremely narrow minded & is a chilling reminder of Section 28 when local authorities were banned from promoting LGBT rights.

Librarians are being told they can no longer promote events such as Pride and Black History Month.
For many LGBT+ people reading is a chance to read about a shared history, to read about people who have gone through similar experiences (and struggles) and a chance to reach out into History.
I have a character limit so I won't even try and list the number of LGBT+ authors who enrich our lives...
I will be writing a further statement on this after I have written back to everyone who has taken the time to write to me about this.
It is an issue that I feel strongly about about & one where I have previously made my views and concerns clear to the Government.
Thank you to the dozens & dozens of constituents who have emailed me about the EHRC code of practice, and the impact it will have.
