My read on this is that, if there's anything at all to read into this (and I'm not sure there is), it's that the responses to this survey are *entirely* performative. "Conservative" profs saying they feel way more self-censored under Trump is because they feel they need to play the victim...
“Congress's top bathroom sheriff Nancy Mace is on the ballot, and while not all of the votes have been counted yet, she is in a respectful fifth place,” Sarah McBride just said. “I don't like punching down and I believe in the politics of grace. So all I will say is happy Pride, Nancy.”

Bari Weiss somehow manages to be one of the most repellent people in an age dense with such filth
These decisions are being made by people who haven’t been in a classroom in 30 years. despite working (if being a trustee is “working”) in higher ed their opinions are shaped more by right-wing talking points than by the realities on campus
You guys, the White House accidentally ordered 10x the amount of Porta-Potties that they needed. The lawn is just acres of Porta-Potties.
It’s all fenced off and you can’t see, but I took this photo through a hole in the fence netting.

The question is whether he's a good nominee, not a good person -- and a nominee you have to constantly defend and explain is not a good one
As expressed on the pod with @mbkplus.bsky.social, I have missed feelings about FIRE. They do some genuinely important work. But their surveys are unscientific and agenda-driven. This one of law faculty had a 6% response rate, with no apparent testing for non-response bias.

Bari Weiss not beating the bootlicking propagandist allegations here:
“The Auburn University Board of Trustees on Friday gave itself complete control over course offerings, curriculum, degree requirements and academic credentials while eliminating shared governance at the Alabama land-grant university… The policy leaves many questions unanswered”
A new survey of nearly 2,000 faculty members at U.S. law schools concludes that law professors strongly support free speech but often struggle to put it into practice on campus.
