Wow. Rubikon have caused significant difficulties for Ukraine. This defection, if genuine, could be a significant source of intelligence.
My essay for Survival (the IISS journal) on the personal as geopolitical. Draws on my diplomatic past and present observations of the Trump presidency.

Opinion: Russia's war on Ukraine is not a stalemate. On land, sea and air, in sanctions’ design and enforcement, and in the geography of resourcing, the war is escalating and will continue to do so, writes @nigelgould-davies.bsky.social.
While orthodox strategic arguments hover in the background, Trump himself speaks of international relations in visceral, tactile, intimate terms rather than bloodless abstractions of interest and values.

Brilliant and in places hilarious. And fascinating details: the prosecution barrister had been junior counsel at Nuremberg (and the judge had prosecuted Lord Haw-Haw). Nuremberg was path-breaking international law, while obscenity charge was backward-looking.
Do you believe Russia will not commit aggression against any European states? If not, why?
A terrible review. Lears' repeated invocation of "russophobia" (never defined) is as amateurish as his depiction, in his previous piece for you, of the RUS-UKR war as "Biden's war". He is unqualified to write about international politics. Why do you use him?
"The author of that statement, Professor Murray, was you." Brilliant!
This is a very significant and under-reported story.
