Wait, I'm supposed to learn something? #SpoonieAuthChat
Spoonie Author Chat (for creatives who manage spoons), June 11, 2026: What lessons have you learned about managing your spoons (mental and/or physical energy) while developing a written work? (Please quote-post and add #SpoonieAuthChat to your replies!)

I learned that writing can be taxing despite being a sedentary task, but it also can help with managing my brain fog. Keeping good notes gives me a thread of clarity to follow on days I feel fuzzy, and when I'm too tired to write it's okay to daydream about the characters. + #SpoonieAuthChat
#SpoonieAuthChat I found finger splints help with typing, and fountain pens help with hand-writing (you really shouldn't press them into the page when you write. I know good ball points don't require a lot of pressure, but that didn't stop me from pressing🙄)

I deserve not to harm myself by “pushing through.” Writing should be a joy. Writing every day is not necessary. The book will get written when it is written. #SpoonieAuthChat

Sprints, pomodoro timers, and body doubling, often in combination, have been so essential in helping me focus on writing/get started writing. Also sometimes background music, especially music that matches the tone of the scene I'm writing. #SpoonieAuthChat

#SpoonieAuthChat June 10: My lapdesk, so I can work in bed, is a huge help. I used to utilize text to speech frequently, but it has gotten worse and worse in the past few years, and it takes much longer to edit the constant mistakes it makes. I've stopped using it, so my writing has been slower 😭

it occurred because i am not in a position to be owning furniture, but i use one of those larger lap desks with legs as a desk and sit on the floor, which works out because sitting at desk chairs makes my knees & hips hurt so much more than just sitting cross-legged on the floor. #SpoonieAuthChat

I've been using Dragon Naturally Speaking 13 Pro for years and I'm not upgrading any time soon. I record the wav files on my phone & then feed it into Dragon when at my PC. I have both a lap desk & a bed-side adjustable tables for writing in bed. mechanical keyboards help too #SpoonieAuthorChat
