What lessons have you learned about managing your spoons (mental and/or physical energy) while developing a written work?

I deserve not to harm myself by “pushing through.” Writing should be a joy. Writing every day is not necessary. The book will get written when it is written. #SpoonieAuthChat
How much mental energy (at least mine) affects physical energy. If one is drained, the other will follow. It’s exhausting. #spoonieauthchat

Truth be told, if nothing else I've learned that sometimes I'm not going to be able to Do The Thing™️ and that's okay. My writing experience hasn't been the same twice since 2020, so I just have to roll with it.
And I have to relearn it with every new project 😅

My lapdesk, so I can work in bed, is a huge help. I used to utilize text to speech frequently, but it has gotten worse and worse in the past few years, and it takes much longer to edit the constant mistakes it makes. I've stopped using it, so my writing has been slower 😭
Mostly that I need breaks and that speed writing is not my thing. Knowing my upper limit, and to quit when I'm not being productive, helps both my adhd and autistic portions of my brain.
Wait, I'm supposed to learn something?

If my body is telling me to stop, whether is be physical or mental energy or a writer’s block, I need to listen. My body will go from Reset Required to BSOD and humble me extremely quickly and then I can’t work my projects for even longer than a rest would have cost me!

Cait Gordon ♿️
I've been using Dragon Naturally Speaking 13 Pro for years and I'm not upgrading any time soon. I record the wav files on my phone & then feed it into Dragon when at my PC.
I have both a lap desk & a bed-side adjustable tables for writing in bed.
mechanical keyboards help too

I learned that writing can be taxing despite being a sedentary task, but it also can help with managing my brain fog. Keeping good notes gives me a thread of clarity to follow on days I feel fuzzy, and when I'm too tired to write it's okay to daydream about the characters. +
