Your periodic reminder that people are *more* abusive online when they're using their "real names" than when they're using a persistent pseudonym and this effect has been replicated in literally every study that has ever been done

I remain of the view that regulation of social media is better than a ban for young people. But I also pretty much agree with all these proposals.

Again, these have been worse than traditional MTL bc AI makes assumptions. MTL will just translate things wooden, but at least it would be less forensic cleanup work for a real person to parse mistakes. AI will just make shit up to the point where you have to do the whole TL over from scratch.

Duncan the reason why you're getting roasted is because there's a whole fuckload of trans people on Bluesky and they understand the issue better than you They are not being mean or unreasonable, they are defending themselves against regimes that want them fucking dead Stop sighing, you're wrong

Also "make chronological feed the default" is fine, and I think there's a case to have infinite scroll turned off by default But neither of those things require weird Starmerist social control schemes, so weirdly controlling Starmerists aren't pushing them

The Canadian reaction to this has been muted, because Canadian reactions are ALWAYS muted. (Though certainly they're going insane on X.) But the Starmer version is causing a big and growing backlash. That will harden opposition even before our Digital Commissar takes up his censor's pen.
Notably, Canadian MPs almost never break ranks on votes like this; it might be better to start focusing on the Senate. (Or, hell, to start planning the lawsuits. Ramming a bill through is not a sign of a government that has carefully considered whether this puddle of slop passes an Oakes Test.)
