I just think if the government was to become this unpopular this quickly, they might as well have done it by increasing taxes on median+ earners.
High costs means less money for essentials. Private renters are being hardest hit by rising rents while low-income support remains flat. We are repeating our calls to increase Local Housing Allowance rates to match actual market rents by uprating it every single year.
To fix this, we need persistent, focused effort to build more homes for social and affordable rent. But the government's housing agenda relies on local authorities, who are currently struggling and must be supported to ensure safe and healthy housing for all.
Cold, damp, and mouldy homes cause breathing difficulties, allergies, and poor mental health. While Awaab’s Law is a vital step for social tenants, funding pressures on local government mean fixing our aging housing stock will take concerted effort.
Location matters. Being forced to move away from social support networks can disrupt vital networks and communities. For those with pre-existing conditions, losing access to their support network can significantly impact health.

Today, alongside the @healthfoundation.bsky.social , we’ve published a major report looking at the link between poor health and housing. Too many people in the UK live in homes that are making them sick and it’s worsening health inequalities. www.citizensadvice.org.uk/policy/publi...
Our report focuses on three distinct ways housing harm physical and mental health: Cost, Condition, and Context. Existing inequalities mean these harms fall unevenly across the country, widening the health gap.
