If you're puzzled by something, it's not like you have to put on your coat & go to the library. You can just pick up your mobile, key in your question, & more often than not find an explanation. Why are people not curious? Why are they happy not knowing, not understanding?

As humans, we make assumptions about others, & are often reluctant to correct these even when evidence shows otherwise.
Many, for example, believe Universal Basic Income #UBI won't work bc everyone will stop working - when time & again we've shown that's not what happens.

Unperturbed, he said: "Well, you have your opinion & I have mine." I replied: "No, I have facts & you have gut feeling."
Then my British family spoke up & asked to move on, saying they didn't want to drink their coffee next to a racist.

That got a reaction. The man replied he was no racist, he just didn't want all these Asians coming over here. [You do wonder whether they ever listen to themselves, don't you?]
Now you're probably wondering why go through the trouble? Racists rarely change their opinion. I tell you why I do it:

Backed into a corner, he then claimed he recently fished a misdirected letter addressed to a Syrian family out of his postbox & accidentally opened it. It showed they received €5k in welfare. I told him point blank that was nonsense, he was lying. He didn't even try to protest.

Just watching the latest episode of Who Do You Think You Are?, wondering about people that are famous for being famous. Who manage to stay in the spotlight by scoring one reality show after another. We're basically watching them making a life out of us watching them being famous. Redundant, really.

I publicly contradict every racist statement for the benefit of everone else the standing or sitting around nodding. Thinking this is a majority opinion. Feeling safer to join it, or reluctant to contradict. I do it for them, the silent, unthinking ones. They might still be reached.
