Not exactly @maustermuhle.bsky.social! Per DC law, the special election would occur 70-174 days after Jan. 2 - that would require the DCBOE to schedule a special Ward 4 CM election between March 16-June 22, 2027! So yes, the BOE could schedule the special in April, but it’ll likely be later!
A total of 116,060 ballots counted, as of 1:54pm today. If I had to guess, there’s probably another 38,000-53,000 mail-in ballots remaining for BOE to count (and receive through June 26) in the final tallies
Here’s the list of Independent candidates running for Delegate, Mayor, Council Chair, At-Large CM & SBOE (in Wards 1, 3, 5, and 6) who have pulled papers to-date to run in the November 3 general election. Petition signatures are due back to the DC Board of Elections by August 5
Congrats to @aparnafordc.bsky.social, who ran an incredibly impressive campaign for Ward 1 Councilmember over the past 10 months!
What are McD’s next moves now?
If he runs as an Independent for the At-Large CM seat on Nov. 3, he’d need to collect 3,000 valid signatures by Aug. 5. Alternatively, he could wait to run as a Dem in the special At-Large CM election in Spring 2027. Or he could run for nothing!

Good morning DC! Congratulations to @aparnafordc.bsky.social for a sizable lead that will likely lead to victory! She ran an impressive field operation, and her win is well-deserved. Here are some maps. Aparna swept every single precinct in Ward 1. Highest was 55% in Columbia Heights. (1/3)

Quick correction here: A special election for the Ward 4 seat on the D.C. Council could be in mid- to late-April, per the waiting period in D.C. law. I counted wrong; apologies!

@janeese4dc.bsky.social just had her first press conference as the presumptive Democratic nominee for D.C. mayor, and here's a 🧵 with some highlights.
First: She's not resigning her Ward 4 seat until she's sworn in as mayor. That means a special election is likely next May or June.

NEW: Kenyan McDuffie called Janeese Lewis George this morning and conceded the mayoral race, per two sources familiar with the conversation. Barring any huge surprises in the vote counting, Lewis George has won this primary.
