I’d like to push the forward deformation a bit further for the great white shark (Ma’o Nui), but I can’t go much farther if I want to avoid odd deformations when it looks downward. 🥲
Oh, and under normal conditions I should have died many times, but I reduce the damage when taking an animal out for a test swim!
I’m still refining the vertex animation for long-bodied animals, specifically the yaw and pitch damping.
I’m really happy that I managed to achieve this result using only vertex offsets and two blendshapes baked into a single UV(WX) channel.

The updated Nanakia wasn't looking good enough once integrated into the game, so I went back and reworked it.
I think this will be the final version.
If any of you have ideas about which real family of #fish the Nanakia could belong to (or be related to) I'd love to hear them. 🙏

Because all animals are rotated to face the camera, I have to exaggerate the attack blendshape that drives the forward motion during the bite.
It’s very tricky to make the head movement feel visible enough without introducing strange deformations.
