SIC researchers have found that Staph aureus on the skin releases toxins that activate both normal and cancerous T cells, leading to destruction of the skin barrier. Treatment with a new drug candidate, endolysins, can remove the bacteria and restore skin barrier function.

Researchers at SIC have analysed the skin’s response to exposure to the contact allergen, nickel. They found that the response became more severe with repeated exposures and was likely due to a strong skin-resident T cell response to nickel.

Researchers at SIC recently characterised the diversity of phagocytes in the intestine of healthy people and in those with inflammatory bowel disease. They describe precursor phagocyte populations and the emergence of activated dendritic cells in IBD.
