I feel it’s sort of underrated the extent to which a Dem Congress and/or states could (1) absolutely destroy car dealerships as a business, and (2) this would cripple a lot of GOP state and local parties

I really do think that basically every argument about strategy/rhetoric/tactics/policy/willpower/intention/belief/etc is downstream of the entirely unknowable question of "Will people who have no interest or knowledge in these debates change their votes?", which is what's driving us all crazy.

honestly I think the best metaphor for this debacle is the Russo-Japanese war:
-idiot ruler with delusions of grandeur
-empire wants to show a middle power whos in charge
-negotiators are idiots
-imperial logistics are all fucked up
-empire surrenders to middle power after defeat
I do think that it will be the work of a generation, but that Trump truly has torched things in a way that will noticeably weaken America basically forever, and possibly irretrievably (and this is bad).
