On Tuesday, before men rampaged through Belfast in search of migrants after footage of a knife attack the previous night circulated online, Musk shared a call by far right Tommy Robinson for people to take to the streets. “Only by protesting REPEATEDLY and LOUDLY will there be any change!!”
One club has been allowed to progress to Israel’s Premier League, after being given a generous helping hand by the UEFA Foundation and the U.S. government. Another club has been selected twice to play in UEFA competition, despite a strict vetting process apparently in place.
Trump’s efforts appear to include an attempt to lower this bar. In one case, the Justice Department stripped the citizenship of a New Jersey man born in India after declaring that he had arrived in the U.S. without travel documents or proof of identity, and that he had used a different name.
In December, the Trump administration directed USCIS to supply the DOJ with 100 to 200 denaturalization cases per month. Denaturalization cases are rare, between 1990 and 2017, the government filed an average of 11 denaturalization cases/year. The process is known to require a high bar of evidence.
Ten illegal Israeli settlement football clubs now operating in the occupied West Bank and occupied Syrian Golan Heights have been allowed to play on despite FIFA and UEFA promising to investigate them for breaching territorial integrity and anti-racism statutes.
Coalitions of attorneys and rights groups are developing a powerful new infrastructure to challenge Trump's mass deportation machine. The projects connect noncitizens facing unlawful detention with pro bono attorneys who can file habeas corpus petitions on their behalf in federal court.
A military plane carrying five U.S. immigrants took off from Djibouti in July 2025. Its destination was Eswatini. Ruled by a king, Eswatini had made a deal with the Trump administration to receive up to 160 people removed from the United States in exchange for $5.1 million.
Trump has dismantled the Ocean Observatories Initiative, decommissioning a vast network of ocean floor sensors that collect data on marine ecosystems, ocean currents and climate. In their place is the increasingly unregulated expansion of resource extraction driven by the fossil fuel industry.
Cassandra Robertson, a law professor, said that the denaturalization efforts “are an attempt to suppress the political speech of naturalized citizens.” “Once it becomes easy to take somebody’s citizenship away,” she added, “it becomes easy to take anybody’s citizenship away.”
As with the Venezuelan men sent to El Salvador last year by the Trump administration, when the Eswatini-bound flight arrived, the government there placed the new arrivals in a maximum-security prison, where most remain today with no way to challenge their detention.
