As a Jewish historian who works at a university, I think it’s great that an administration committed to destroying “the internal globalist enemy” which is staffed by groyper antisemites is collecting lists of Jews. Can’t see any potential downside here at all.

I've only read a bit of this so far, but him citing an author from the '60s complaining about how mediated experience has caused people to think in abstractions because they're not in direct communication through "community" anymore is so deeply ironic I'm surprised the universe didn't implode.
This one won't leave my brain, and it's making me despair. Time to get the fuck offline and bash on the guitar for a little while...
I'm not an expert on many things, but I always love when people respond to me regarding something I know about under the assumption that I'm a complete naif in need of schooling. I assume they do it to everybody, so I don't take it personally, but jesus.
I mean, I know how, though the answer is somewhat involved. But I'm still shocked that it's gotten so bad that this guy, and several other appalling hacks, are published in the New Yorker. And never mind NYT and the Atlantic, which are both totally lost at this point.
I think David Remnick is a bit smarter than his counterparts at NYT and the Atlantic, but just a bit. He's got the same problem they do: publishing garbage from reactionaries as long as they aren't explicitly MAGA, for "balance."

I guess the 8 million people who took to the streets a week ago didn’t penetrate the NYer’s bubble.

No Kings, you see, is no good, because the name of the events is "uncontroversial" and is a "widely acceptable slogan." And it does nothing but give people a false sense of community. A "feeling." I don't even know where to start with this. How did this kind of hackery come to dominate the media?
