Nobody wants to muck around with "smart home" gizmos, they just want stuff to work.
Say a guy wanted one of those fancy bidet seats for his toilet, but his toilet wasn't near a power outlet. The best course of action?
A) Buy the unpowered bidet seat & put up with cold water on my ass.
B) Pay to get a new outlet put in. (How much is this?)
C) Abandon bidet plans.
GOP pols mostly went to elite schools & worked as lawyers. The core GOP base -- the "local gentry" who own the car dealerships & fast food franchises -- are financially well off, at least in local/regional terms.
Both groups use the "callused working class" purely as an ideological bludgeon.

Maybe the reason everyone has a different explanation for why everyone hates the Democratic Party is that there are a bunch of distinct factions & demographics in this country that hate it for a bunch of different reasons!
Remember, the GOP is the unpredictable, violent father. You're not allowed to question him, unless you want a beating. So everyone -- EVERYONE -- displaces their angst or anxiety or fear or resentment onto mom, ie, the Dems. Why isn't she fixing everything?!
