Will my generation of fans complain about it endlessly online? Yep. But they're going to do that no matter who is at the helm of Doctor Who.
But I still think it should be someone younger with a new take on the concept and something new to say.
I’ll be honest, I have a lot of mixed feelings about this. I’ve been a Doctor Who fan since 1977, but I haven’t been a huge fan of the writing on the show for a few years now and I have come to think the show needed new people with a new vision…
…but there’s an ‘I was just jerking your chain’ quality to RTD’s announcement that is not sitting well with me this morning.

But the thing from Doctor Who that is just BURNED into my creative soul -- other than people in long coats always look cool -- is the idea that the solution to a problem is almost never a fight. That has influenced every story I've ever told.
And most of my main characters have long coats.

I'm not going make any "Hire me to save Doctor Who" jokes, or "My wildest Doctor Who pitch" memes. But I will say that Doctor Who is deeply embedded in my creative DNA, as it is in many fans like me who go on to creative careers. There are traces of it in everything I make.
