^ the problem of (admittedly niche) descriptive data in our field - there's little incentive to collect it, as few peer reviewed journal article places would publish something based off that kind of data.
There's no arrest in this case (yet?) but if the sheriff is removed/resigned/or otherwise out of office, I haven't been adding them to the spreadsheet I'm informally keeping of sheriffs who have been arrested. Maybe at some point I'll get serious about the data collection and beef it up.
A sheriff was successfully recalled yesterday (almost never happens) over allegations of missing drug evidence and falsifying employee time sheets.

Utah voters passed a Constitutional amendment in 2024 to enshrine independently elected sheriffs in their state Constitution, ensuring this problem would be made even more difficult to solve.
