California condors are the largest land bird in the US, with a wingspan of 9.5 feet. It’s been a long fight to recover them. In 1980 there were around 20. By Dec 2025, there are now 600. But the shooting of invasive/feral pigs (a widespread CA problem) with lead ammunition threatens condor recovery.

If H.R. 4255 passes, #Lobos will lose their status as a federally protected endangered species. If “delisted” by legislation, rather than by an administrative rulemaking guided “solely by the best available science” as required by the ESA, Lobos could be on a path to their second wild extinction.
