The criteria for chancellor are ideological alignment, intellectual heft and experiance.
On this basis you have 2/3 candidates; Miliband, Cooper and (at a stretch) Haigh.
Wes, to his credit, has clear economics and a economic vision. But 'progressive capitalism' doesnt fit with Manchesterism

This is all rather silly. The PM and Chancellor need to have shared overall objectives, otherwise it's not going to work. That matters more than whether "markets" have "confidence". They'll go along with whoever unless they do something Truss-level stupid
