The social media is full of unkind takes on Marjane & Persepolis. But most of them are based on the movie, which like any film is a bad reflection of a book. What annoys me the most though are those who think Marjane’s narrative is Orientalist. Boy, y’all need to read your Orientalism to the end!
They are under the false impression that they have somehow “won” & think they are pressing their advantage. What they don’t realise is that they are dealing with a vengeful empire. The next US gov’t will crush Iran.
All these negotiations between Iran & US reminded me of Menander Protector’s description of the treaty of 562. I just love Menander & will use any chance to talk about his fragmented history (I dream of finding a full MS in an Istanbul library eventually!) So, a blog!

Germany as a whole, but Mumich in particular, always feels like a scam. Underfunded, overpriced, dirty, no one accepting responsibility, and everything malfunctioning. Close it down.
The IRGC & whoever else is ruling in Iran right now are absolutely crazy & have no regard for the lives of ordinary Iranians obviously.

I am beyond sad about the death of Marjane Satrapi. As a fan of BD, I loved her work. As an Iranian, I loved her ethics and passion. As a person, I looked up to her. She was the same age as my sister and had very similar experiences which made me feel close to her. She will be sorely missed. RIP.
This is a brilliant article by Peter B. Golden.
I used to get annoyed by these long footnotes that would run over several pages, sometimes even crowding out the “main” text. But then I’ve come to love them. They are mini-articles within articles. You just have to read the article twice!
