The social media is full of unkind takes on Marjane & Persepolis. But most of them are based on the movie, which like any film is a bad reflection of a book. What annoys me the most though are those who think Marjane’s narrative is Orientalist. Boy, y’all need to read your Orientalism to the end!

I am beyond sad about the death of Marjane Satrapi. As a fan of BD, I loved her work. As an Iranian, I loved her ethics and passion. As a person, I looked up to her. She was the same age as my sister and had very similar experiences which made me feel close to her. She will be sorely missed. RIP.
