I keep getting mail asking that I re-elect him as a Democratic district leader. Doesn't mention any of this stuff that Hell Gate (and only Hell Gate) has been covering: hellgatenyc.com/seddio-on-th...
Tim Healy and I found yet another way ICE is systematically violating the constitutional rights of the people it detains.
The word of the day: collusion.
Important ruling--should mean that at least in NY, Connecticut and Vermont, ICE can't routinely deny many detained immigrants the right to a bond determination. 3-0 decision, written by a Trump appointee to 2nd Circuit.
They might want to focus on the many corporate tax breaks the city has authority over. Nothing wrong with trying to get help from Albany--every mayor does. But if the city cuts back its own tax breaks for the wealthy, it would be in a better position to argue the state should, too.
For many years, there were allegations that ICE would “release” critically ill people in hospitals so that their deaths wouldn’t be recorded as in ICE custody. To fix this, in 2021 the Biden admin required ICE to report deaths occurring up to 30 days after release. Now that rule has been dropped.
