I've been feeding a friend different cyber security information for some stuff they are writing which is enriching their story. One of my favorite mystery series is a 1920's Bombay women solicitor because of the details of the world. Research local wildlife and flowers. It all helps.
Don't just read what everyone else is reading. Especially read more non fiction of "Small" topics. The more you know and the more you read (Classics too!) the richer what you write will be.
Do not draw your comic's inspirations solely from other comics.
Speaking as an editor with a slush pile: It's incredibly obvious when a comic creator is clearly only reading/absorbing/remixing other comics.
It's not good.
Storyboard artists are the backbone to animation. I was told countless times by working comic artists and animators, that character design is stupid competitive but if you can storyboard? you're in. Every single one of them also said that storyboarding is not an "easy" role
The apparent problem is that kids living in a prison are seeing ferrets or guards killing rats…
not the fact that kids are living in a CHILDREN’S PRISON
