It was a fascinating glimpse down a path not really taken. And of course all of the utilities still mostly exist and can still be used, which does come in handy every now and then.

In the 90s I came across a Unix book that was aimed solely at those needing to do word processing, of a sorts. It was all about ed, sed, grep, wc, tr, and the like; and only scripting to the extent that you would pipe those commands together.
