A survey by the American Farm Bureau Federation showed fertilizer costs were up 47%... And 70% of farmers couldn't afford the fertilizer they needed this season. I don't think our farmers feel like there's much art in that deal.
Moody's Analytics estimates the war with Iran has cost U.S. taxpayers $132 billion so far. And it has affected our society much deeper than just at the pumps:
The point is that one person is so obscenely wealthy that you could leave him with $500 billion and still solve massive issues that benefit hundreds of millions of people. It's crazy to think about how someone with so much wealth could fix so many things.
He could close the digital divide with an ~$80 billion investment in extending high-speed fiber optic internet to rural and underserved communities. Now, of course, Elon couldn't liquify $500 billion all at once. But that's not the point.
DHS thought the town of Roxbury, NJ wouldn't resist an ICE detention center in their backyards. But the people of Roxbury put up a hell of a fight. And now DHS is looking to offload the warehouse they bought. This is what happens when people stay loud enough for long enough.
Next, he could fund a significant overhaul of the electricity grid. The high-voltage lines needed to connect wind and solar to major cities are estimated to cost ~$314 billion. And then with the last ~$86 billion:
First, he could replace every lead pipe in America and fund the upgrade of water treatment systems. This is estimated to cost ~$100 billion. That leaves ~$400 billion to spend.
Elon Musk is now a trillionaire. He could keep $500 billion of that and still solve these problems with the other half:
Maybe an economy that can mint a trillionaire while millions struggle to afford gas and groceries needs a little reform.
The El Niño forming in the Pacific Ocean is predicted to be the strongest since 1997. This means strained energy grids and higher bills. And, of course, the administration that doesn't believe in climate science won't do a damn thing to prepare.
