Each ICE operation generates roughly $196,000 in monthly losses for nearby businesses and communities. (That's 11x the government's administrative cost of a deportation.)
Why?
ICE activity decreases foot traffic in those public areas.

It’s truly astonishing to see how comprehensively the US government is tearing down every part of the system that has made it up until now a world-leading power in science, research, and technological development. The entire world will suffer from this wanton destruction.
Don't believe FIRE. It always skews its supposed research to favor the white Christian nationalist views. Its purported annual survey of campus speech *omits* conservative religious affiliated institutions.

FIRE is a right-wing dark money outfit.
Let’s be absolutely clear about this. It presents as libertarian, but its real agenda is imposing right-wing ideology on schools.
This is a diabolically evil report. That is the only way to put it. Its objective is to reignite the culture wars using the imprimatur of both the university and prominent scholars so as to sow deep epistemic doubt about the humanities and hasten the project of killing us off entirely.
Honoured to share our new paper in @nature.com today. Across 12 countries in eastern and southern Africa and Southeast Asia, 1 in 6 internet-using children had experienced technology-facilitated child sexual exploitation and abuse. A thread 🧵
Remember that recent paper claiming to show that "ideological bias" determined the results obtained by immigration policy research teams?
A careful, open-code reanalysis by @kauspurg.bsky.social & Josef Brüderl finds that the result arises from a coding error. —> doi.org/10.31222/osf...
FIRE, a product of the “academic freedom” campaign, wants to protect free speech for everyone. Yet its stances show deference to religious views and a persistent anti-queer strain.

Enabling parental mediation of online activities and children’s knowledge of where to seek help after sexual harassment or assault is associated with higher rates of disclosure of technology-facilitated CSEA.

Hi, expert on far-right extremism here, a history of domestic violence and misogyny is one of the strongest predictive variables for violent extremism, especially on the right.
We've been raising the alarm on this for DECADES but no one cares.

I got through a bit of this already notorious report, written by very prominent philosophers about the “decline of the humanities.” Everyone on this report is smarter than I am, yet none of them seems to understand what it’s been like to navigate the academy since the late 1990s.
Special Commission Report on the State of Scholarship in the Humanities and the Humanistic Social Sciences Download the report. This report is addressed to university chancellors and presidents who are concerned about the state of academic scholarship in the humanities and the social sciences and who may wish, within their purview, to promote excellent scholarship […]
