No prizes for guessing what would headline this week's @northwaleslive.bsky.social BirdNotes... It's set to be just the seventh first-for-Britain found in #NorthWales, a list that dates back to 1753. A few non-heron sightings too. 📷John Riley #BirdingWales www.birdnotes.wales/blog/first-f...

Eradication of Rats (and other invasive non-native predators of eggs and chicks) on islands can play a big role in seabird recovery. Ensuring they don't get there in the first place is essential too, and far cheaper. It places a big onus on island managers for whom sustaining funding is a challenge

🌊 An early-season marine heatwave is spreading across the Atlantic and Mediterranean. Some coastal waters near France and parts of the western Mediterranean are running more than 5°C above normal for this time of year. Summer hasn’t even started yet.
#Lundy Site of Special Scientific Interest is designated for breeding #seabirds - #Puffins, Manx #Shearwaters, #Kittiwakes, #Razorbill & Common #Guillemot. Thanks to the removal of #invasive rats between 2002-04 Manx Shearwater no.'s have increased 7500% since & European Storm Petrel now breed there
From the extensive collection of awful photos: This colour ringed kittiwake was seen this afternoon in one of the Isle of May monitoring plots. Not a bird caught here but ringed last July on Puffin Island, Anglesey. Presumably not yet of breeding age and prospecting various colonies
