Back when Netflix mailed DVDs, their site was about connecting with your friends. "Your friend Pete just watched North By Northwest. Can you guess how he rated it?" "Larra LOVED one of these movies but HATED the other two! Can you guess which?" It was awesome so they killed it.
I don't know what it was like on DS9 but reading These Are The Voyages you learn that the main reason TOS has such a weird mix of all-time classics and humiliating junk was...the producers had to pick which eps to bash into shape. Those became classics. The ones they couldn't get to? SPOCK'S BRAIN!
