😂 That’s another random offer to buy my 2006 hatchback, kindly rejected. 3 now over the last 18 months.
Is this actually a thing? Has anyone else had this?
Brutal mountain this to finish the AURA Tour. There’s a noticeable difference between the ease of Del Toro compared to those chasing who are all understandably looking very laboured.
At the very least, drivers of SUV’s should be taxed in accordance with the additional dangers they pose.
VED in some European countries is as high as 20x against what’s charged in the UK.
As I know from cycling, current regulation of these vehicles is nowhere near being fit for purpose,
The news that many feared, Paul Seixas abandons the AURA Tour after being dropped on today’s first climb. Whilst disappointing there’s little to no benefit fighting on whilst carrying injuries from yesterday’s crash.
- Auto lifetime driving ban if convicted of DbDD or DbCD
- Retrospective revocation of licence for those driving with 12+ pts (regain requires passing driving test)
- Increase driver education campaigns
- Ensure consistent enforcement by creating a National Bureau (sole task process video evidence)
Quick, deliverable methods to begin to address address poor driving attitudes (abundant in UK):
- Get more people cycling (cycling infra.)
- Abolish hardship defence
- Mandatory 5 or 10 year theory and practical driving re-testing
- Establish presumed liability for motorists
-Next…
I’ll take this further, whilst car volume undoubtedly plays a prominent part, it’s driving attitudes that ultimately determine how many people cycle.
The UK suffers poorly on both fronts, especially with the latter, hence many people who want to cycle understandably conclude it’s not safe to do so.
The drivers who lament cyclists riding 2 abreast are amongst some of the most clueless on the road.
3 separate cyclists ahead of me (strung out) on a climb today which the drivers also ahead of me could not get past. Resulted in me filtering past them on a 6% gradient, ridiculous!
Not one single mention of ”driver”. This is the BBC Standard. The organisation that you pay for and one that’s complicit in the normalisation of road violence, by giving agency to the vehicle, not it’s driver.

The majority of close passes I get are from SUV drivers.
SUV’s are bigger, heavier and are more lethal.
Pedestrians hit by SUV drivers are 44% more likely to die, children 9-18 (77%) and children 0-9 (209%).
