Wonderful to see your #LawnFlowers for #wildflowerhour, many of your photos perfectly illustrating just how vital they are for providing nectar & pollen & for enabling invertebrates to complete their life cycles. Keep a lookout for the next challenge & see you all again next Sunday!
It's Dactylorhiza season again in Britain - you either love 'em or hate 'em*, it seems, as every year they puzzle and confound as folk puzzle over identifications. There's nobody better to make sense of them than our brilliant orchid leader, @thenewgalaxy.bsky.social... *we LOVE them! 😍 #orchids
One of my favourite butterflies of the Alps is the Sooty Copper Lycaena tityrus. Unlike many Lycaenids the male is plain brown and the female (shown) is more well marked. Never abundant, always indicates a good habitat! @europebutterfly.bsky.social
Churchyards can be good for more than pushing up the daisies - they can be absolute havens for wildlife of many descriptions, including wildflowers. This week's @wildflowerhour.bsky.social challenge is to see what #ChurchyardFlowers you can find in God's Acre...

Our members volunteer in so many wonderful ways! They're inclusive: running workshops, events & conferences They're intrepid: recording wild plants across Britain & Ireland They're inquisitive: studying plants & sharing #WildFlowerID tips Celebrating them in #VolunteerWeek! bsbi.org/about/people...
Tour update 🚨 With two more places secured today, just two places now remain available to join Orchid Summer author @dunnjons.bsky.social and Italian orchid-hunter supreme Michele Viganò next April for Orchids of Sardinia: www.mariposanature.com/tours/botani... #orchids
Tour update🚨 Our #orchid tours for 2027 continue to steadily fill - today two more places secured for Orchids of Cyprus, led by the superb team of @thenewgalaxy.bsky.social & Dave Fairhurst. We're proud to be the number one choice for orchid-hunting holidays. www.mariposanature.com/tours/botani...
Good morning and welcome to a new week! Our featured tour is Butterflies of North Greece, a wonderful exploration of the burgeoning butterfly riches that surround Lake Kerkini. Naturally, this tour generates a donation to support @europebutterfly.bsky.social. mariposanature.com/tours/butter...
Tour update 🚨 Things move fast around here - another booking for Orchids of Cyprus this evening takes the 2027 edition of this popular tour to half-full. Needless to say, it generates a donation to support the great conservation work of @bsbibotany.bsky.social. mariposanature.com/tours/botani...
Some of my happiest European butterfly-watching moments over the years have come exploring the countryside of North Greece, finding new sites for the likes of Large Copper, Sandy Grizzled Skipper, Iolas Blue and Freyer's Purple Emperor. I can't wait to return in 2027 with @mariposanature.bsky.social

The front lawn today, lots of oxeye daisies are out, the field scabious is a bee magnet, the birds foot trefoil is also popular with bees and moths, lots of butterflies around #lawnflowers #wildflowerhour
New challenge alert!🔔 When managed sympathetically churchyards can be amazing places for wildlife! The challenge this week is to see which wild & naturalised plants you can find blooming there! Share for #wildflowerhour this Sunday 8-9pm using #ChurchyardFlowers @caringforgodsacre.bsky.social
8/6/26 #Yorkshire - Easily my favourite Dactylorhiza, Pugsley's Marsh #Orchid (D. traunsteinerioides) at Kilnsey. An annual pilgrimage, hoping to visit with company next year @wildflowerhour.bsky.social #wildflowerhour
