@brianbeutler.bsky.social: "There should be consequences for people who use speech to undermine democracy," just like there are for speech that defrauds investors or deceives LEOs. I love this. You lie about elections, you're barred from running for anything. Ever. www.offmessage.net/p/disqualify...

Again, “but he can’t do that and that’s not how it works” is no longer an answer to these sorts of questions. That is true of ~100% of the things he does now. It’s not doomerism to ask what the plan is when he does the ultimate “he can’t do that thing”:

So cease. Much fire. Very not-a-war.
The fact that the risk of this stuff is above exactly zero is a sign of how far down the democratic backsliding path we've already gone. And the fact that it doesn't lead to Trump's immediate removal is a sign, again, that presidentialism was a grave mistake. Impeachment is a useless dead letter.
👇🎯 Yes, there will be elections. Yes, the Dems will likely win. The question is "What is the plan when the GOP refuses to accept the results of those elections in Jan 2027?"
Yes, we know how things are <supposed> to work. Again, the question is "So what is the plan?"

It's time for blue states to take on election lying for real, and they should start by making Pratt an avatar for a Big Truth movement.
The Rock & Roll Hall of Fame performance of “While My Guitar Gently Weeps,” honoring George Harrison, featured Tom Petty, Jeff Lynne, Steve Winwood, Dhani Harrison, Marc Mann, Steve Ferrone, and a killer closing guitar solo by Prince. (Edited for format)
If the president can simply rendition legal residents on a whim, & he can simply cut funding for anything he wants, & he can violate all of our treaty commitments, & he can monetize the presidency w/o consequence, then what exactly makes us believe that accepting election results is any different?
I am less concerned about Trump literally “canceling” the midterm elections than I am about him insisting that no results can possibly be legitimate, and urging his most psychotic acolytes to take matters into their own hands (again)

Yes, of course, this may be a low probability event, the norms will hold, SCOTUS would step in, etc. etc. But the fact is, we're at the point of genuinely asking these questions, & they are not crazy questions, & they are deep signs that our constitutional order is not functioning on a basic level.
