I also didn't remember McDonald's was still using the character as late as 97. A truly insane era of advertising. I kinda miss it.

We've known about their ability to do this for at least 20yrs. People have been theorizing, complaining, filing info requests, and reporting on it. And they've been allowed to keep doing it.
Niantic's CIA connections were theorized a decade ago when they were part of Google and they admitted to their data collection operations in 2024.
Google also admitted Street View was illegally collecting wi-fi data including unique addresses and passwords as early as 2007.
