Conceptual corvid currently fixated on organizational topology, design systems as languages, structured content as embodied doctrine, antifascism, and shitposting as a service. My views do not represent those of my employer, no matter what they claim

The platypus... has hollow *and* spherical melanosomes in its fur. "Hollow melanosomes have never been found in mammals before, and the combination of hollow and spherical is not seen anywhere else as far as we know" www.discoverwildlife.com/animal-facts...
“82% of executives said they expect metaverse plans to be part of their business activities [by 2026].” www.pwc.com/us/en/tech-e... Always good to look back on those splashy Big 4 analyst predictions.

Even digital ad platforms were — at the time they arrived — something that promised transformative, empowering democratization of what had been out of reach. I knew smart people who quite literally paid their rent by consistently writing and hitting “publish” on a self-hosted blog with AdWords.
And those other things — blogs, social media née microblogging, video sharing, streaming platforms, hell search engines — have gone or are going through similar arcs.
Feels a little like the arc that Email and Newsgroups took; both were transformative, neither went away, but once bad actors figured out the best ways to exploit fundamental parts of those platforms’ interaction models, it became impossible to return to What They Used To Be. Other stuff was needed.

“This new malleable view of “citizen” has become an article of faith. No longer a legal status, it’s simply a code-word for ‘one of us’ that can be withdrawn from anyone.” Six years feels like a long, long time ago. medium.com/@eaton/human...
