I recently saw this in a different context, but I'll drop it here: the progressiveness of a small tax is only one part of the equation. The progressivness of the big spending which is made affordable by the small tax is the other part. No tax and no spending is likely the most regressive of all.

About once a year, somebody publishes a comprehensive status report on the state of North Idaho. Here's the current one. I've been away for a decade-and-a-half, but the levels of insane toxicity remain off the charts. My deepest appreciation to the courageous and committed "moderates" who remain.
