Lmao the reason this leaked was because he wanted to buy IDEF, a totally illiquid BlackRock fund that trades ~$100k a day, instead of ITA which trades hundred of millions, so he had his brokers call up BlackRock and ask for a direct creation under his name. There’s so many layers of stupidity here.

The line of reasoning that could have lead him here is mystifying to me. If you had foresight you’d buy oil calls, if you were smart you’d buy specific companies you knew would be involved, if you were dumb you’d still buy a broad ETF. But why would you ever want to buy this specific tiny ETF?
You might not know this but in American culture, there is a high premium placed on “saving face”
A thing I will just point out is that among other things Iran’s demands have included war reparations. Will they keep Hormuz closed even if the US takes their ball and goes home? Who knows! Anyhow crude down like $5/barrel and S&P futures up 1%.
The unknown is scary and I’m increasingly convinced that is motivating more of the AI backlash out there than anything else. Even on something as basic as “own your own experience whether you can code or not”.
