Last night was a powerful statement of solidarity, with hundreds of Chicagoans riding from Palmisano Park in Bridgeport to a die-in on Halsted near where Riley O’Neil was killed.
We cannot accept regular, preventable deaths on our streets. No more of this, please 🙏
“Your trip is not any more important or urgent as anyone else’s on the roadway,” Active Transportation Alliance’s Jim Merrell says. “We all have to respect each other and err on the side of caution and do our best to keep each other safe.”
The bike ride and “die-in” in memory of fallen Complete Streets Planner Riley O’Neil was a life-affirming event. "No more people should die in the streets because their lives are not valued as much as driver convenience," said one organizer.

We know how to prevent pedestrian deaths.
Every other peer country has implemented solutions to make their roads safer, but U.S. policymakers allow more than 7,000 people walking on the road to be killed each year.
